YAHOO! We closed on our old house Thursday, February 25. Everything went very smoothly. The Brittons took occupancy at 424 Old Course Drive on Sunday, the 28th of February. We huffed and puffed to get everything out. Seems like we've been moving for weeks. A HUGE thank-you to son, Dwayne who's given up a couple of weekends to help us get moved. We couldn't have done it without him. I hope that the Brittons have as wonderful a life there as we have. It's been such a good house and I'm happy that a family with two little girls will take our place. They'll have great fun climbing all the trees we've planted (and the ones that God planted as well!). Just as we were getting ready to call and schedule an appointment with Mike, Teri called to ask if we could meet him Friday at the site to do a walk-through. It's amazing! We made a few changes, additions really--some electrical outlets, phone lines, task lighting under the counters in the kitchen, and decided where the microwave is going. We also talked about stairs and railings on the open back porch and what the screened porch will look like. Mike says we're six weeks away from move in. Yikes! If I'd known that last week, I never would have unpacked all those boxes. Daughter Leslye came in with Keith Friday afternoon. We drove over Saturday morning with my sister, Laura, to tour. This week was a major progress week! Central A/C and heating units installed, all of the electrical wiring was pulled for phone, cable, and electrical outlets, AND the roof was completed! Oh, also laid another layer of plywood throughout the entire downstairs. D moved a lot of our plants and the hoses out to their new home late Saturday (what I couldn't fit on the balcony at our treehouse apartment). Mike says they will start bricking on Wednesday, columns will be here March 10, windows will be here this coming week (they've been backordered). We received our bid from Reed on the front door and it's going to work out fine. The frame and transom are already installed. We'll purchase our door and sidelights from Reed and still be close to our allowance. We turned the bid over to Mike and Teri to coordinate with Tom Reed. Sunday afternoon, D and I dropped Les and Keith at the airport and drove back to Baytown to water plants. Our neighbors, Melody and Randall, were across the street inspecting their house which is also under construction. We visited with them and did tours of each other's houses. They've had roofers working all weekend. Melody remarked how neat and clean our lot was compared to theirs. She was also amazed that the inside of our house had been swept clean. |
