Roberto is painting like a mad man. Those guys are working 10-12 hour days to keep us on schedule. It's looking so good. The priming is finished and all of the trim has been painted. They will start painting the sheetrock today (Saturday, April 17). Teri says they will be through tomorrow. How is that possible?! I screwed up and gave Roberto the wrong paint color for two of the rooms upstairs (I had the colors reversed) so D and I made an early morning dash to try and catch them before they started spraying the sheetrock today. We had been by yesterday evening when I spotted it. Entirely my fault and I felt terrible telling Roberto this morning. Thank God they had just painted around the moldings and not the whole room.

The back porch railings and stairs were built this week. They look really good. The stairs don't come out as far as I thought they would so there's still plenty of room on the little patio/landing at the base. They'll provide prime lounging area when D can finally fire up barbecue pit or smoker.

The China Doll paint color on the kitchen cabinets looks super. It's going to be great with the mustard background of the wildflower wallpaper. Lee and Louise Byler are in town from Jackson, MS, for a camera conference this weekend. We talked to them late morning and will meet them for a tour and early dinner this afternoon before they have to be back at their hotel for meetings. Louise said, "We'd love to see the house if you wouldn't mind taking us by." Well, of course, we'd love to show it to them! I fear we are boring our family and friends to tears bacause it's all D and I can talk about.

It is a beautiful spring day with temps in the low 70's and dropping down to the high 40's at night. Bright sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. It is wonderful to be alive! The scent of honeysuckle envelopes you on the lot. I can't wait to be in the house and working in our garden. D and I sketched out a plot this past week. Looks like we'll be able to have 6 (maybe 9) 5' X 10' raised beds of veggies and herbs. Oh, speaking of gardens, D and I found out the neatest thing from Mike last week--our septic system is a recycle system too! I can't tell you how excited I was to find out that all of the gray water we use is treated and then sprinkled out into the yard. For years at 424 Old Course I grumbled about the tremendous waste of water and why didn't someone come up with a way to recycle it. Well now it seems they have!

Next week will bring marble, Corian, and laminate on the counters in the kitchen and baths. The appliances and lighting will be delivered and installed the end of the week. And I think Teri told me wallpaper. So much going on I can't keep up. I'm glad to have Teri to do that for me.

4/17/99 -Brick inlay in drive and sidewalk has been finished 4/17/99 - It really adds a nice dressy touch to all the concrete 4/17/99 - Future bed of azaelas and crepe myrtles near the corner of the house with room for annuals in the front.

4/17/99 - Roberto's crew is painting fast and furiously 4/17/99 - Lots of drawers to be painted. 4/17/99 - The mantel is painted and ready for candles (well almost!)

4/17/99 - Back porch steps have been added. There will be a hand rail down the steps and railing all around the porch 4/17/99 - Kitchen cabinets are painted-China Doll. Makes the stained unit really stand out. All top cabinets will have glass. 4/17/99 - Notice the nice job that Gary and crew did on the feet of the hutch. It really looks like a piece of furniture.

4/17/99 - Double oven area with drawer beneath, cabinets above and my desk and cubbies --"mission control" 4/17/99 - Butler's pantry area between kitchen and dining room-D's "mission control" 4/17/99 - And now we're upstairs in the sewing room. I stole an extension cord and light from the painters to be able to take this picture.

4/17/99 - Taken from the other end, Miss Bernina's new home. They've hand brushed the gold paint around the ceiling area and other hard-to-reach places. 4/17/99 - Same color, different room. This is the office/guestroom. This is called Basketweave. I like it! A little color is bringing the place to life. 4/17/99 - Plugs on the front porch were behind the shutters and had to be moved. Gems replaced the hardy plank rather than patch. Good job!

4/17/99 - Progress on the back porch. Lots of long, lazy evenings will be spent here. 4/17/99 - Plenty of room for the smoker and the BBQ pit. 4/17/99 - One of the sprinkler heads from our recycling septic system.
