D and I spent the week between Christmas and New Years in Natchez. While there we saw the real Cottage Gardens, the model for our home. The renovation that was under way in October when we were there is complete and it is really beautiful. Noa was right: the proportions of the house are so symmetrical and so pleasing.

This website will be used to document the construction of our home and to provide a way for our family and friends to share the progress and excitement. Gems began construction on our "historical replication" of this house the week following Christmas. On our way back from Natchez, we stopped at the lot eager to see what had taken place while we'd been gone. The framing forms for the pier and beam foundation were in place and ready for concrete to be poured. The holes for the piers with the rebar sticking out are 13 feet deep! This is what we saw:

Actually, you get a better idea if I show you what we saw before we left for Natchez: Cleared lot
12/25/98 - Tree stumps are ground and the site is ready. 12/25/98 - Dwayne and Les survey the prepared site Christmas day.

Then when we got home:
1/1/99 - On the return from Natchez: "Pinch me! Is it real?" 1/1/99 - We have power! 1/1/99 - Omigosh, it is real!
