Well, you'll never guess...Sassy is home! Is it the absolutely perfect ending or what?

D got a call yesterday from a lady at the old apartment complex saying that she had seen Sassy the night before. She was out feeding her cat and saw Sassy come out of the woods. She put out an extra bowl with food for him and he came and ate but when she tried to get him, he took off. She told D he was real skiddish. D went to the apartment complex after work and took the Pounce treats. He walked almost all the way around the complex calling Sassy and shaking the treats can. About 3/4 of the way around out popped Sassy from the woods. D said he was so skinny that he wasn't sure it was him. D squatted down and called him and poured some of the treats on the sidewalk and Sassy came running. D said when he saw that belly swinging from side to side, he knew for sure it was our Sassy cat.

He ate and let D pet him but got skiddish when D picked him up and was squirming to get away. The lady in Building 1 who had called D was watching all of this and offered her pet carrier which D thankfully accepted. He got Sass in the car and went straight to Albertsons and bought some more treats for him. Evidently there were just a few left in the can he had.

Meanwhile at 5902 Cajun Way, I was really getting worried because D had told me earlier in the day that he was leaving work right at 5:00. By 7:15 I was about ready to call the Highway Patrol when I heard D at the back door. I saw him bending down fooling with something but I couldn't tell what it was. When I went to open the door, I looked down and saw Sassy in the pet carrier. I just busted out crying. I couldn't believe it was him.

This whole past week, it's been like his ghost was here at 5902 Cajun Way. I kept thinking that I saw him coming around a corner in the house or thinking that I heard him meowing. Premonition? I don't know. I'm just so thankful to have him back. D and I both are. He came right out of the carrier and rubbed up against my legs and just stalked all around the house sniffing and talking and talking with his short little meow, meow, meow. He talked so much that by the time we went to bed, Sassy was hoarse and nothing came out when he opened his mouth.

He seems fine other than being about 10 pounds skinnier than he was when we lost him and having a few cockaburrs in his fur. He sniffed all around the house and said, "Well, this is a pretty nice place ya'll built for me. Sorry it took you so long to find me. The swamp at the apartment has been hell but now I'll settle into my kingdom." And he has. He's sleeping right on my desk as I write this...just like he always used to whenever I worked at the computer. We'll gradually get him used to his new digs outside but for now he's not straying too far from my side, unless of course, when D's home. Then he's in his lap. Four weeks and two days he's been gone. Thank you God for yet another prayer answered.
